Colombia: South America's little secret
< back

A melting pot of history, music and good times
Spending two weeks travelling round Colombia to most might seem a touch too much, but you'd be sorely mistaken. Forget about what you've heard, Colombia is one of South Americas hidden secrets.
Bogota was where we started, perched 3000m on top of the Andes, the country's capital certainly snaps you out of your jet lag. Packed full of art, architecture and characters, it's an ideal place to stroll the streets and soak it all in by day. At night things get a bit more lively,
Taxi's were a must but the atmosphere electric...Colombians know how to dance, and love to teach...so some salsa shapes were thrown into the early hours.
The second part of the trip saw us fly north to the Caribbean coast to Cartegna, a colonial city made infamous for it's occupation by the Spanish. Colourful facades line the streets and squares, and you truly feel you've arrived in the Caribbean, the music flowed, we danced some more before heading up to Tyrona National Park.
We were greeted with a 3 hour trek through the jungle dodging crocodiles, but it was worth the sweat and mossy bites, as we were rewarded with a scene only imaginable in a dream...a secluded bay with white sand, flanked by palm trees and jungle all for us. A night in the hammock under the stars was our accommodation that night, and our serenity was only interrupted by a cockerel having his morning sing at 5am, oh well you can't have it all.
Colombia is somewhere you must go...but get in quick as it won't be long before everyone catches on to this little gem.
